The Editor Interface

Welcome to the Vellum Editor. The interface is designed to keep you focused on your architectural data while keeping powerful formatting and structural tools just one click away.

Rather than scattering buttons across a massive ribbon, Vellum uses Context-Aware Modes. The mode you select in the header dictates the tools available in your side drawer and the tools that float over your canvas.

Try clicking the workspace mode toggles in the header, expanding/collapsing the drawers via their side tabs, and hovering your mouse over the different zones.

Most importantly: click and drag across the cells in the grid to see the Magic Floating Toolbar! Notice how the toolbar icons instantly change if you switch between Content Edit and Style Edit.

The workspace is divided into three primary zones:

The top navigation bar acts as your command center. Here you will find:

  • Schedule Identity: The active schedule name and its unsaved/sync status.
  • History Controls: Standard Undo and Redo actions.
  • Workspace Toggles: Quick switches to alternate between Content Edit, Style Edit, and the advanced Nodes studio.
  • Publishing: The master action to push your finalized schedule back to the dashboard or Revit.

Vellum eliminates cluttered toolbars by utilizing smart, collapsible side panels.

  • The Content Drawer (Left): Activated during Content Edit mode. This drawer houses your structural data rules: hidden columns, parameter mapping, filtering, sorting, and conditional formatting.
  • The Style Drawer (Right): Activated during Style Edit mode. This drawer manages visual fidelity: typography, cell shading, border weights, themes, and dimensional distribution.

The central area is your interactive, hardware-accelerated Schedule Table. It dynamically resizes as you open and close the side drawers, ensuring your data is always centered and readable.

Vellum supports standard spreadsheet navigation paradigms:

  • Click and Drag: Highlights a contiguous block of cells.
  • Dimensional Control: Hover your cursor over the borders between any Column Header or Row Header. Click and drag to manually resize the dimensions in real-time.

To keep the interface completely clean, Vellum uses Contextual Floating Toolbars. When you select a cell or a group of cells, a targeted menu will appear near your cursor.

The contents of this menu depend entirely on your active Workspace Mode:

  • In Content Mode: The toolbox will offer structural actions like Merge Cells, Split Cells, Insert Row/Column, and Delete.
  • In Style Mode: The toolbox shifts to visual actions like Typography, Alignment, Text Colors, and Fill Colors.
