Column Fields
The Column Fields accordion is the primary bridge between your Revit project data and your Vellum schedule. Unlike traditional Revit schedules where you are forced to scroll through a tiny, unsearchable list of parameters, Vellum provides a modern, searchable interface to manage your data.
1. Managing Active Columns
Section titled “1. Managing Active Columns”Once you have added parameters to your schedule, they appear as “pills” inside the Column Fields accordion. This interface allows you to completely control the structural layout of your data.
Try dragging and dropping the columns below to reorder them!
Quick Actions
Section titled “Quick Actions”Hover over any column pill to reveal its management tools:
- Drag Handle: Click and drag the left-side icon to reorder columns instantly.
- Rename: Click directly on the column’s name to give it a custom heading (this does not rename the parameter in Revit).
- Sort (A-Z): Toggle alphanumeric sorting for that column.
- Units Formatting: If Vellum detects numeric unit data (like mm, m², or currency), you can toggle the unit suffix on or off.
- Hide (Eye Icon): Hide the column from the final export without removing its data from calculations.
- Delete: Remove the parameter entirely from the schedule.
2. Adding Native Parameters
Section titled “2. Adding Native Parameters”In native Revit, adding parameters involves hunting through an alphabetical list. Vellum revolutionizes this by providing a lightning-fast, searchable parameter picker.
Click the (+) Add icon in the accordion header to open the picker.
The Native tab automatically displays every parameter available to the base category of your schedule (e.g., if you are building a Door Schedule, it shows all Door parameters).
Simply begin typing in the search bar. Vellum will instantly filter the list, displaying both the Parameter Name and its Data Type. Click any parameter to instantly append it as a new column.
3. Extended Categories
Section titled “3. Extended Categories”One of Revit’s biggest limitations is the inability to schedule parameters from linked elements (like pulling Room data into a Door schedule). Vellum’s Extended Categories tool solves this natively.
Clicking over to the Extended tab allows you to link entirely new categories to your current schedule.
Linking a Category
Section titled “Linking a Category”Add Data Source
Pull parameters from other Revit categories.
- Click + Add Categories.
- Select a related category from the dropdown menu (e.g., “Rooms” or “Levels”).
- Vellum instantly queries your Revit project, links the elements contextually, and loads every parameter from that new category into your search list.
Extended parameters are visually distinguished by a small lightning bolt icon, reminding you that this data is being pulled relationally from outside the base schedule category.
